Horticultural

Gardens for Mind, Body & Soul

Plants, Fruit & Vegetables

We have 3 large vegetable patches with over 30 vegetable beds that produce a wide range of vegetables and fruit.

We grow all our plants from seed in the polytunnel and greenhouse and enjoy choosing some unusual crops to grow. There is a lot of work to do throughout the year – preparing
the ground with fertilizer and compost bins, sowing, and tending the seedlings, planting out, making beds bird proof, watering and, of course weeding!

‘A place where everyone & everything grows’

We also grow salad and fruit such as melons, in the large polytunnel and we have been experimenting with some fruits that are new to us such a cucumelons and physallis.

NVQ Horticulture

Some of our students are studying for an NVQ in horticulture with St Helens College. The assessor comes to the farm twice a week to work with the students and this has encouraged a more in-depth knowledge and interest in the gardening at the farm.
